Privacy Policy

This page explains how MoonCrumble handles information when you use the search engine.
Summary
MoonCrumble is designed to keep searches private by default.
You can use public search without an account, advertising trackers, or search-based advertising profiles.
How search privacy works
When you search, MoonCrumble may show your search state in the URL after a # fragment, for example:
/search#q=example
The part of a URL after # is handled by your browser and is not sent as part of the normal page request to MoonCrumble servers or CDN logs.
When the app needs results, it sends the search query to the MoonCrumble search API in the request body rather than in the URL. This is intended to avoid search terms appearing in normal request URL logs.
Search queries still need to be processed by MoonCrumble servers to return results. They are not used to create personal profiles or advertising profiles.
Normal application logs are configured not to intentionally store full search query strings together with full IP addresses. Aggregated or non-identifying information may be used to understand service performance, improve result quality, detect abuse, and keep the service reliable.
Information processed
When you use MoonCrumble, the service necessarily processes limited technical information to return results, deliver pages, protect the service, and diagnose problems. This may include:
- your search query, when submitted to the search API
- your IP address while handling requests
- browser and device information sent in standard HTTP headers
- request timestamps
- requested routes, such as
/searchor/api/search - response status codes and basic performance information
- security and operational events
IP addresses and security
Your IP address is necessarily processed by servers, CDN providers, hosting providers, and network providers to deliver requests and responses over the internet.
MoonCrumble may use IP addresses temporarily for security, rate limiting, abuse prevention, debugging, and service reliability.
Where practical, logs are minimised, shortened, anonymised, aggregated, or separated from search query content.
Cookies and tracking
MoonCrumble does not use cookies, third-party advertising trackers, behavioural advertising pixels, or cross-site tracking scripts.
Browser history and shared URLs
Your browser may store pages you visit in its local history.
If you copy, bookmark, screenshot, or share a search URL, the search terms in the URL fragment may be visible to anyone who can see that URL.
Result links and third-party websites
Search results link to third-party websites. If you click a result, your browser connects directly to that third-party website.
The destination website may receive your IP address, browser information, and limited referrer information from your browser.
MoonCrumble uses a referrer policy intended to avoid sending your search page URL or search terms to third-party websites.
Third-party websites have their own privacy policies and are not controlled by MoonCrumble.
Security and abuse prevention
MoonCrumble uses technical safeguards such as rate limits, security rules, and operational monitoring to protect the service from abuse, attacks, spam, and excessive automated traffic.
Some security systems may process technical request information such as IP address, user agent, route, timestamp, country, request method, and response status.
Data sharing
MoonCrumble does not sell personal data.
Information may be processed by infrastructure providers that help operate the service, such as hosting, DNS, CDN, security, logging, and backup providers.
Information may also be shared if required to comply with law, protect the service, investigate abuse, enforce security rules, or respond to valid legal requests.
Retention
MoonCrumble keeps personal information only for as long as needed for the purpose for which it was processed.
Operational logs are retained for a limited period for security, debugging, abuse prevention, and service operation.
Retention period: up to 30 days.
Where practical, logs are deleted, shortened, aggregated, or anonymised sooner.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or portability of personal information.
